Gabriella and Paul
How We Met
Paul and I met through mutual friends when I was 14. We would talk online here and there, which created a friendship, but we never seemed to cross paths to actually hang out in person. Finally in the summer of 2009, when I was 16, we ran into each other at a school festival and quickly became inseparable and started dating. For the past 8 years, we have grown up together. We have attended high school proms, went through college, traveled, become part of each other’s family, and basically never left each others side. I feel so lucky to say that at 16 years old I found what some people spend a lifetime looking for – a true love and best friend all in one.
How He Asked
I could not have dreamed of a more perfect proposal. On November 20, 2016, Paul told me we were going to celebrate a friend’s birthday. When we arrived he told me he had to run inside to use the bathroom and asked me to wait outside for the valet ticket. I said ok and got out of the car and waited for the attendant. It was a cold November day and the valet attendant told me he had to just take a walk around the car and check for any damage so he would not be held responsible for anything. After two walks around the car, he then apologized saying he had to take a few pictures as it was his first day on the job and didn’t want to be blamed for any scratches. I said ok and tried to be as patient and nice as possible even though I was freezing!! (This later made sense as my fiancé hired him to stall me outside). After about 5 minutes, I finally got the ticket and ran inside. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by a girl who “worked” there. She asked me who’s party I was there for and showed me the way. I was hesitant as I was still waiting for Paul but as soon as I saw her open the curtain into the room – I couldn’t believe what was about to happen. At first I was still confused and shocked but as I walked through I could see Paul waiting at the end of an aisle of flowers. I nervously walked to him as a violinist played “All of Me” by John Legend and over 100 candles lit up the room. Paul grabbed my hands and started crying as he told me how much I meant to him and how he couldn’t picture his life without me. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. My legs were shaking like leaves and I felt like our whole relationship flashed before my eyes. I couldn’t believe the moment I dreamed of was happening in the most beautiful setting with the person I love most. After about 20 minutes, our families met us at the venue and were able to experience the breathtaking proposal set up Paul created and celebrate. It was an amazing day and I’m so happy to have beautiful memories from this day that will last a lifetime.
