Gabby and Brandon
How We Met
Our love story began when we were both 14 years old. It was basketball season, and his school was playing mine. As he sat in the bleachers watching my game, he “couldn’t take his eyes off me.” He just “had to know” who that girl was. Lucky for him, there was a poster up on the wall with all of the players name’s and jersey numbers. He memorized mine, and got on a mutual friend of ours Facebook page and added me a few months later. He wasted no time asking me for my number because his baseball team was coming to play my schools team that next day. I still remember all of my friends and I sitting in the stands right before the game started, and all of my friends noticed him looking up at me. He texted me that night after the game, then we didn’t talk for a couple weeks. Out of the blue Brandon sparked up another conversation on May 26, 2012, and we’ve talked every day since. He asked me to be his girlfriend June 9, 2012. We’ve truly gotten to grow up together, and our bond continues to grow each and every day.
How He Asked
I’m always good at guessing surprises or knowing when something is up, but he sure got me this time. We decided to take a bus tour to New York City December 2, 2017 with his mother, my best friend and her boyfriend. I had been to NYC before, but never at Christmas time and that’s when I had always wanted to go. I was surprised Brandon even wanted to go considering the city is out of his element. I told Brandon ahead of time how excited I was to see Rockefeller Center with the tree lit up and all the decorations..little did I know that he and my best friend had already been plotting. We didn’t really plan out the day other than showing him some of the highlights of the city: the Statue of Liberty by day, and the 9/11 Memorial at night. We stopped and got Starbucks and took pictures in this beautiful little park that was lit up with Christmas lights, and I actually said to him, “New York would be such a beautiful place for a proposal.” …Little did I know 30 minutes from then I would be getting engaged!
After that we took the subway to Rockefeller Center where we met up with my best friend (who had already searched the area for the perfect proposal spot.) Brandon’s mom had been carrying the ring for him that day so I wouldn’t find it on him, and as we were walking to take pictures his mom slipped him the ring without me even noticing. After getting split up from the other half of our group trying to navigate through the crowd of people, I was annoyed and just wanted to get out of the crowd. Luckily, the spot that my best friend found was off to the side where there was actually room to move. Then the moment had come, it was mine and Brandon’s turn to take our picture. He had planned to take a couple pictures before he proposed, but he said he couldn’t wait any longer. Before I even got turned around I heard him saying my name, he then grabbed my hand, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. After asking him, “are you serious?” a few times (because I was just not expecting it at all) I then, of course, said yes! In that moment my whole world stopped, and even though there were people everywhere, it felt as if it was just him and I. It completely exceeded any expectation I ever had. December 2, 2017 was honestly one of the best days of my life, and I can’t even imagine what September 1, 2018 will be like when we finally get to become Mr. & Mrs. Stowers.
