Frankie and Dan
How We Met
Dan and I met by chance at the McDougal Street Ale House. We first saw each other when I walked up to the jukebox to put on a song. Immediately I saw his “All you need is love” tattoo and a smile came to my face when he turned around my eyes must have lit up because he smiled straight at me. I remember saying “You’re cute. Want to buy me a drink?” He took me up on my offer and we sat for the rest of the night talking and laughing at the bar. When we were leaving, he asked me if I wanted to go out again. I said yes and our love affair began.
The first few weeks were a blur. We were both very busy with work but made the time to go to shows, dinners, and eventually his favorite event of the year… Comic-Con. That weekend was a blur, moving through the busy aisles and crowds of cosplayers, but I must have had fun. He eventually used that weekend and wrote a short film about our experiences there. Convention was something that bonded us together and made us support one another even more than we have ever supported anyone else. After that, we were hooked.
How He Asked
Our engagement came right as we were finishing production on Convention and Dan was traveling more than ever before for work. At the same time, my family was suffering from the decline of my grandmother so I was traveling up to my parents on the weekends. On May 22, 2017, I was coming home from work when Dan called me from Ohio. He was there for several days producing and shooting content for a festival.
Thinking he would be home the next day I went home to walk our adopted schnauzer Rex and there was the surprise. When I opened the door to our apartment, I was greeted with candles and flowers in the entryway and on the bar. The acoustic version of Shut Up and Dance was playing through the rooms, and right as the door shut Dan emerged from our bedroom. I melted and began to cry from the realization that this was happening. Down on one knee, he opened the box and presented a ring he designed. I said yes immediately and we celebrated that night with champagne and homemade grilled cheese sandwiches.
