Erin and Nicholas
How We Met
Nick and I are both registered nurses who met at the hospital when we first started working as RN’s together. Seeing Nick work with the elderly and have so much compassion and care towards his work made me instantly fall in love. It was amazing to meet someone as dedicated to nursing as I was. Our relationship grew so quickly through sharing nursing experiences together and helping each other through difficult shifts. Nothing will bring a couple closer than cleaning the elderly and drawing blood together. About a year and a half into the relationship nick and I decided to plan a vacation to Jamaica. I had never been out of the country and nick was so excited to take me with his sister and her boyfriend to spend a week at an all inclusive resort relaxing and not working about the stresses of nursing.
How He Asked
We had talked about marriage and we were both completely head over heals for each other.. Absolutely inseparable. Everyone at work had been telling me they had a feeling nick was going to propose on vacation. Of course I didn’t believe it. How could he get a ring on the plane without me knowing? He hadn’t been ring shopping.. There’s no way. Those were my thoughts. But little did I know I was wrong. Nick had a plan to propose the whole time.
That day was hands down the best day of my life. We woke up early after a night of way too much rum! We had plans for a couple excursions that day and there was no way a hangover was goin to stop us! Our day started by catching the bus to dunns river falls.. A huge waterfall and one of the biggest tourist attractions in Jamaica. It was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. The waterfalls instantly cured our hangover when we got in the cold water and we were ready to start our day! We hiked up the waterfalls for about an hour and a half and when we were done nick was seeming to be very nervous. He kept telling me.. “We need to go back to the bus now.. Come on.. Let’s hurry.. I’m hot.. I need to get back in the air conditioning”. Now this attitude was completely unlike nick.. He’s normally so “go with the flow” and laid back. I wanted to wait for his sister to get done hiking.. But he insisted we hurry back to the bus. Little did I know he had left my engagement ring sitting on the tour bus in one of the poorest countries.. With at least 150 tour buses lined up along side ours! ( I didn’t find this out till later that night and I almost fell over when he told me.. What if that bus would have left?!? It would have been so easy to mix up buses with 150 of them there!)
so we got back to the bus and his sister followed about 5 minutes behind with her boyfriend. We were off to our next excursion.. Swimming with the dolphins! Something I had wanted to do my entire life!! I was like a kid in a candy store. I had never touched a dolphin let alone swam with one! We made sure to get pictures taken and I swear I had tears of joy in my eyes the entire time. Nick was acting slightly off again,. But I had no idea he had an engagement ring in his bag ready to pop the question the entire day. He was waiting for the perfect moment and he didn’t want to do it in front of a large crowd. So he kept that darn ring in his bag and back to the resort we went!
Back at the resort we were exhausted from the long day.. And being hungover that morning. So we took a quick nap before getting ready for dinner. We woke up refreshed and started getting ready. Nick told me to put on a pretty dress and we would go to a fancy resteraunt tonight. I swear I changed my dress like 5 times like I normally do when getting ready and finally nick told me to stop and picked out the dress he liked best. Nicks sister and her boyfriend came over to our room and we started playing cards before dinner. Then nick suggested we go for a walk on the beach before eating.
We left the room with nicks sister following. Hand in hand we walked to the beach and he led me to the gazebo where weddings take place on the resort. I was uninterested in the gazebo.. (I’m more of a beach girl and I wanted to go down to the water!!) I had no idea he had a ring in his pocket and I was spoiling his plans. But nick just went with it and followed me down to the water. He grabbed my hands and got down on his knee with the most beautiful ring in his hands. That was the moment he asked me to be with him forever.. And of course I said yes. His sister had been behind us the entire time taking pictures. I was completely caught off guard but I couldn’t have been happier!
We celebrated with steak dinner and wine! But of course being in another country I couldn’t make any phone calls and we had no wifi.. And that was only day 2 of a 7 day vacation!! Try being engaged to the love of your life and not being able to tel anyone for 5 days!!! It was torture! But so nice I soak in the engagement together for the week!
We loved Jamaica and that week so my that we have decided to go back with our closest friends and family to tie the knot on August 16,2016! We will be getting married on the beach and will definitely be going back to swim with the dolphins and hike dunns river falls. I cannot wait to marry the love of my live and my mcdreamy. Nursing has brought me so many joys in life.. Including my amazing husband to be! I couldn’t be more thankful.
