Erin and Michelino
How We Met
Michelino and I have been dating for 4 years now. We met in high school, were just friends for a while, then he asked me to our senior prom and the rest was history! We both played lacrosse for our school so he decided to ask me to prom in a creative (and public) way! He spelled out PROM? in lacrosse balls before my practice in front of my entire team. I was so happy — I was hoping he would ask me! We went to different colleges, but we made the long distance work. We drove, and took train rides and bus rides just to see each other any weekend we could. It wasn’t easy, but it was completely worth it. We both graduated college in May 2016, but the long distance continues. Michelino is a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
How He Asked
He’s stationed in Texas, while I’m home in New Jersey. Although we can’t see each other much, he was able to come home for leave. Little did I know, that would be one of the best weekends of my life. He took me out to a nice restaurant and we talked for hours, laughing and catching up. We just picked up right where we left off. We didn’t want the night to end, so after dinner we drove around for a little bit and we ended up at our high school. We reminisced about our relationship and how it all started. Then Michelino and I snuck onto the football field and we started talking about prom. “Can you still picture it? Can you see me asking you to prom?” Of course I answered yes! And then his follow-up question: “Now can you picture me asking you to marry me here?” He pulled out the most beautiful ring and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him on the very same spot where he asked me to prom 4 years earlier. I started crying, but I couldn’t stop smiling — it was the best day of my life. And even though we’re doing long distance now, I can’t wait to plan our wedding and spend forever with my best friend!
