Erin and Matt
How We Met
Our story begins in 1995 when Matt and I were placed in the same kindergarten class. For the next few years we were in school together, I was in love with Matt and Matt was in love with baseball. We went on to go to different middle schools, high schools, and colleges. Our parents, who had become friends when we were younger, always stayed in touch and Matt and I would keep track of each other’s lives through social media. Matt was playing baseball in college and across the east coast. I was involved in my sorority and determined to have the best college experience possible. We both graduated from college in the spring of 2012. The following December Matt came with his parents to a Christmas party that my parents held at their home every year. I, of course, was there and we reconnected. After that we were inseparable, and by February we were dating!
How He Asked
Our proposal story begins almost 5 years after Matt and started dating. Matt came home one day and was telling me he wanted to go to Dallas, Texas at the end of the month. We have been to Dallas a few times together, and it’s a place we both love. We also have a friend, Ryan, who plays for the Texas Rangers, and Matt told me he wanted to see him play before the end of the season. I agreed we should go. Matt told me he wanted to get to the field early to hang out with Ryan before the game, so as soon as our plane landed we headed over to Globe Life Park in Arlington, home of the Texas Rangers. When we arrived we met up with Ryan and he led us into the Rangers dugout. We were talking and catching up and after a few minutes the the team photographer asked us if we wanted a picture on the field. Matt and I walked out onto the field, in the middle of an empty stadium, for what I thought was just going to be a picture. The photographer snapped one photo of us, and then I turned around to see Matt down on one knee and asking me to marry him. It was a dream, and in that moment everything that I have ever wanted since I had been 5 years old and saw Matt for the first time walking into a kindergarten classroom.
