Erin and Josh

How We Met

I was going out to dinner with a couple friends in the summer of 2014. She was dating Josh’s brother at the time. Little did I know, they had set the whole thing up to get Josh a girlfriend. After eating, we drive to Emory and Henry College to meet up with Kaitlyn’s boyfriend, John, and his brother, Josh. We all talked to each other as they fished in the duck pond. Josh really did not have anything to do with me, but later on messaged me on Facebook. We started talking and texting nonstop, which led to going out on double dates with Kaitlyn and John. We began dating on August 9, 2014.

How He Asked

Josh and I had been talking about marriage pretty seriously as of late. We came in from Lynchburg to our hometowns in southwest Virginia. Josh had ordered my ring off of Etsy, but refused to give me any details of it at all.

On Saturday, May 13, he told me to leave the house. I knew that this is when he was going to ask my parents for their permission to marry me. After I returned to the house, we left and went to dinner with his family. We then went to the lake to look at the water and watch the sunset. He drove us to a spot where no one else was around. We got out of the truck and began walking around and talking. He kept complimenting me and telling me how much he loved me and my ambitious, courageous, loving personality. That is when I knew he was going to ask me that night. I was walking around along the shore line in the water and he was trying to step behind me, but I kept turning around. Finally, he got behind me and I did not notice. He said “Erin, what is this”. I replied with “Josh…” and turned to find him down on one knee with my ring in his hand. He said “Will you marry me”, but I said “YES!!!” before he could even get it out. We are engaged!
