Erin and Darren
How We Met
You can say that we are truly a Match success story. Brought together online, we knew from the first call (yes he called!) that there was something special there, something that made us want to know more about the other. Fast forward to a great first date at Zinburger over glasses of red wine and burgers. The conversation only stopped when we realized that we were the last two in the restaurant. Over the next year and a half, we got to know each other over more delicious dinners, outdoor adventures, a mutual love of baseball (though we are a house divided – he’s a lifelong Mets fan and I’m a die-hard Yankees fan!), an exciting road trip across California and countless everyday moments together. Our families were thrilled to see the relationship grow as they saw how special we were to each other. It wasn’t long before we realized that we couldn’t imagine a life without the other in it.
How He Asked
As we got ready to kick off the holidays, Darren decided that he was ready to take the next step. He knew the perfect opportunity: our annual holiday trip into the city. As we rode the train in, I had no idea what he had planned nor what was in his pocket. We made our way through Central park, stopping to listen to a holiday choir performing by Bethesda Terrace. Darren suggested we walk over to the iconic Bethesda Fountain and invited me to sit down. It was pretty cold day so there weren’t too many people around, it was like we has the place to ourselves. He turned to me and told me how much he loved me and how special I was to him. Before I knew it, he pulled the box out of his pocket and got down on one knee in front of me. As he opened the box and I realized what was happening, the emotions completely overwhelmed me (yeah there was some ugly crying involved). He asked me to be his wife and I of course said yes! After calling our parents to share the great news, we headed to the Upper West Side where we stopped into a bar for a celebratory glass of champagne followed by dinner at a cute little French wine bar. We ended the amazing day with a visit to Rockefeller Center to see the tree and take in the festive holiday atmosphere just as we had the year before – only this time as an engaged couple!
