Erica and Josh
How We Met
When I was a sophomore in high school Josh and I had met through my best friend. We were in a band together and among the woodwind section. We both were going through a rough patch when we first met, and we had bonded over going through that at the same time. I had always thought he was the cutest guy since before we were even friends. He was always there to lend a listening ear when I needed him to, and we became very close in the first few months of being friends. He wasn’t sure he wanted to date yet because of a bad past breakup and I was determined to be his girlfriend.
During the end of November, I had gone on a youth retreat with my church where I was unable to use my cellphone for 3 days and spent many hours praying for God to reveal his plan for us, and I prayed for my future husband the entire retreat. When I was able to use my phone again I had texted Josh and told him about the wonderful experience I had and how I felt so much closer to God. Somewhere in the conversation I had told him I loved him, and he was weirded out by it. Eventually, we had gotten closer since I was much stronger in my faith and he was very strong in his. On December 7, 2012, God had revealed his plan to us and Josh finally asked me to be his girlfriend after watching “Finding Nemo” at his house.
How He Asked
Although he had me try on engagement rings prior I was not expecting the proposal to happen on the trip to Disney world that we had been planning for years. I always hinted that I was a Disney girl at heart but never expected a Disney proposal. He had a photographer from the parks go over the Cinderella’s wishing well with us and explained to me he thought it was a good place to get a few pictures, and I agreed.
He made a wish in the well and then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him using my full name. He picked out the most gorgeous pear diamond ring I have ever laid eyes on, I, of course, said “Yes!” And he had ordered us tee shirts to wear in the park for the rest of the day that said “Just engaged.” I thought that would be the end of the surprises but when we later went back to the hotel room he had another surprise in store for me, an in-room celebration of rose petals and some bubbly. This was everything I could have hoped for and more.
