Erene and Doug
How we met: A mutual friend of ours was having a party. After a few hours, my friends and I were ready to leave, but as we were getting up, Doug walked in. Our eyes caught across the room and I turned to my friends and told them we should stay a little longer. I approached him and he was super shy! I thought he was going to ask me for my number, but he didn’t! The next morning, though, I woke up to find a new friend request on Facebook (Thank you, social media!!) We spent every day after that together and a month later, we officially started dating. Doug was the sweetest guy I had ever met. He was so polite, kindhearted, and genuine. It was a nice change to be with someone I could be uninhibited with.
On our 9 month anniversary, Doug planned to take me to see The Nutcracker in San Diego, CA. It’s my favorite holiday tradition, so I was super excited that he wanted to go with me. The day of was stormy and Doug seemed pretty upset about the whole thing. I told him not to worry because regardless of the weather we were going to have a good time. He loosened up a little, but I could still feel the anxiety seeping through him. We had a wonderful time at the show and proceeded to dinner at Candela’s on Coronado Island. When we were getting out of the car, he told me to go ahead to the restaurant and he would catch up. I told him I could wait, but he refused! I thought he was going to leave me there or something! lol But he came inside and I was instantly relieved! The restaurant had floor to ceiling windows so you could see downtown San Diego across the way. Although it was pouring rain, it was still so beautiful! After dinner, he asked me to walk with him along the pier. I really didn’t want to. It was pouring and I was cold! But I obliged. After standing at the end, snuggled under my umbrella for what seemed like forever, I asked if we could please go back to the car. He said he just wanted to tell me one quick thing and proceeded to get down on one knee. I smacked him and told him to stop messing around when he jumped up with mistletoe! I laughed and told him that I loved how silly he was, but I was cold and wanted to get back in the car already! He said we could go as soon as he told me one more thing, then he once again got back down on one knee. He told me he had never been so sure about anything in his life and that he would like nothing more than to be my husband. I started tearing up and kept asking if he was serious. I couldn’t believe it. I finally dropped my umbrella then leaped into his arms yelling yes! I didn’t care about the cold anymore, nor that we were getting soaked. I was just so happy that I was going to be able to spend the rest of my life with the greatest guy. We didn’t get any pictures that night, but we flew out to Paris a few months later and got our engagement pictures taken. I felt like I was in a fairy tale.
