Emily and Josh
How We Met: Josh and I were high school sweethearts. He was my first boyfriend-and my last. We met when I was a freshman, and he was a junior. He sat next to me in the computer lab and wouldn’t stop talking while I was writing a paper. A couple weeks later, a friend invited me to a church function, and Josh was there. That night we laughed and talked and had a good time and that was the end of it. Until…a couple weeks into summer break he texted me asking to get to know me better. For the first year, we were just friends. We texted all day and all night and went on our first date-to an amusement park-and on a few smaller dates. It didn’t turn into anything very quickly. Finally, his senior prom was coming up and he asked me to be his date. That was the night of our first magical kiss, and a couple weeks later he took me on a walk and asked me to be his girlfriend.
How He Asked: During a walk on our favorite path by a beautiful river, I was slightly on edge with Josh. He had been secretive for a few days, and we hadn’t been spending a lot of time together. As we were about to walk under a bridge and out to a familiar opening next to a large part of the river, I was actually yelling at him. And then, when we got to the perfect spot, he dropped down on one knee, pulled out a beautiful ring, and told me to look to my left. Already dumbfounded, I looked over to see a huge sign hanging from the top of the bridge. It said “Will You Marry Me?” and it was spelled out with pictures of us. Behind the sign, my sister and two close friends were standing with huge smiles on their faces. I looked back at Josh, and said YES. As he slid the ring onto my finger, he stood up. After a few moments of crying, and kissing and hugging, I looked around to see two more close friends of our come out of their hiding places, and a photographer come around the corner. A friend took out two glasses and poured sparkling grape juice for Josh and I and i just stared at him trying to comprehend everything that was happening.I was completely awestruck, totally surprised, and suddenly realized that this was the reason he had been so secretive; and why a friend had taken me to get my nails done; and why i was suddenly called off work that day. It took him days of planning, and help from our friends, to pull of this perfect proposal.
