Emily and Zach's Carousel Proposal

How We Met

I transferred to the University of Rhode Island sophomore year of college where Sully attended. He grew up in Narragansett the town where my family has a house and where I lived for my time at URI. I happened to go to a party where Sully and his three friends lived in the neighborhood where I was living. We recognized each other from our literature class, and we became fast friends from the first conversation we had. He is known as Sully among all of his friends. I got to know and love him as Sully, so that’s what I will always call him!  After about a year of us being close friends and Sully trying to get a date with me, I agreed. The rest is history.

How He Asked

On December 20, 2014, my two sisters, their boyfriends, Sully and I went to the Trans Siberian Orchestra concert in Boston. After the concert my sisters decided that we would go to see the Christmas lights display near Quincy Market. We walked through the beautifully lighten streets and my sisters decided that we should ride the Greenway Carousel outside Quincy Market. I was a little reluctant to get on the carousel because I was in a skirt, but after some persuasion by Sully I decided to join the fun. We happened to get the last bench on the Carousel. It started spinning round and round. Everyone had their cell phones out and I assumed they were taking selfies. Naturally, I took selfies of Sully and I; however, he was hoping I would put my phone away. Finally I put my phone down, and half way through the ride he got on one knee and asked me to marry him. Everyone was able to capture it on their cameras to which I was so grateful! I was so surprised and excited. We then met his family and my parents in the North End for a celebration dinner. This whole night was planned without my knowledge! It was the best night of my life!
