Emily and Gage

How We Met

I’m not going to sugar coat it, our meeting wasn’t very romantic. On a Thursday night in Johnson City, TN, my roommates and I were out celebrating college finals being over at a local club. One of my roommates had just had a class with Gage that semester. She and I always rode the campus trolley together and when Gage would get on, I always noticed him immediately. I may have mentioned to her once or twice about how good looking he was, so I am assuming that is why he was thrown to me on the dance floor that night. For the next couple of years, we were best friends. We watched one another go through relationships and heartbreak which only made our foundation stronger. Two years later, we found ourselves fiercely in love with each other. We both knew at that point that we were in it forever.

How He Asked

The night Gage proposed to me was hands down one of the best nights of my life. Knowing how much I love Disney, he knew it was the perfect place to get engaged. It was our first park day there and that morning I remembered hoping he would do it at Disney and if he did, I figured he would do it in front of the castle (like Iā€™d seen all over Pinterest). So I prepped my hair and makeup, wore my cutest Disney shirt and headed to the Magic Kingdom. Lucky for me, Gage had a whole different plan laid out for me. That night we had reservations at a really nice restaurant at the very top of the Contemporary Resort called California Grill. We got to the table, ordered my favorite overpriced wine, and soaked up the views.

The waitress came to the table to let us know the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom, which you could see from the restaurant, were about to start and there was a private viewing deck. Gage and I immediately left our seats and found the perfect spot on the deck. With the fireworks starting and his arms around me, I already thought I was having the most perfect night until he started whispering the sweetest things in my ear. At this point, I had finally figured out what was happening so my nerves got the best of me and I don’t remember much of what was said. However, I do remember watching him take that ring box out of his pocket as he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife with the firework finale going off behind me!

I said YES at the top of my lungs and have never ugly cried so much in my life. Little did I know, Gage and our vacation planner had lined up a photographer (who got to see me ugly cry) and even the waitress was in on it, bringing us celebratory champagne! I could not have possibly asked for a more romantic and thoughtful proposal from such an amazing man. Luckily David was there to catch all of the special moments from that special night. Seeing how much planning Gage put into our proposal just shows how incredible he is. Our relationship is what I always prayed for. Not only is he my best friend, but he is the best person I know and makes me want to be a better person and the best wife possible. My family loves him, my friends love him. Most importantly, I love him as I will every day for the rest of my life.
