Emily and Chris
How We Met
Chris and I met through a mutual friend at a restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina. My best friend showed him my picture and said she wanted all of us to go out to dinner. He told her he would like to meet me but he was worried I was too young for him. Once I saw Chris coming to our table, I instantly got nervous. He sat down and reached out his hand to introduce himself, I proceeded to introduce myself as “Ashley” because I didn’t think he would like me. Even though he knew my name was really Emily, he sat down and we talked for hours over dinner. It was a great conversation starter and at the end of the night he totally called me out for giving him a fake name! We spent a few months getting to know each other, and then we were officially boyfriend and girlfriend. After we started dating Chris took a job a few states away so we FaceTimed daily and made the most of our visits together. Once he accepted a different job back home, we moved in together, bought a dog and we’ve loved every day together since
How He Asked
After dating for four years, we decided it was time to officially spend the rest of our lives together. We took a family trip to Ireland in June of 2017. I was so excited to go on this trip with Chris and his family but the thought of him proposing was pushed out of my mind. I didn’t want to leave Ireland feeling disappointed if Chris didn’t propose, so I didn’t think it was going to happen at all. Once arriving to the Cliffs of Moher on our second day, we climbed to the top. Chris kept asking me to take pictures with him but I was so nervous being on the edge of the cliff. I kept putting it off and walked a little bit further up with his stepmom. Chris found a spot that I was comfortable with and his family took a few photos of us. Once we had a great shot, Chris leaned in to kiss me. I gave him a few pecks and all of a sudden he got down on one knee and asked me a question that would change our lives forever! Once we stood up, we realized a small crowd gathered around and they were cheering. A man approached us as we started to walk back to our family and said he was a pastor. He then took our hands and said a beautiful prayer over us and our life together. It still gives me goosebumps to talk about! It was a once in a lifetime trip and an amazing proposal!
