Emily and Brian

How we met: Brian and I met in 2004 when I was just starting high school. It was the summer before my freshman year started and I was going to mandatory summer band practice. I quickly made some friends in my section (I played flute), when my friend Kevin told me his older brother, Brian was in the trumpet section. He was a senior. Kevin briefly introduced Brian and I, and we went on with that year. After Brian graduated high school and went to college, Kevin suggested that I go on a date with his brother, who was recently single. We hadn’t seen each other in about three years.

It was now June 2007 and we were meeting together at a local restaurant. We both “hit it off” pretty well in the beginning and continued to see each other over the course of the month. On July 27, 2007, Brian asked me to be his girlfriend. Seven and a half years, college graduations, a law school and graduate school graduation, countless good times and laughs later…..he asked me to marry him!

How he asked: After Christmas 2014, Brian suggested that we go to New York City to see the tree at Rockefeller Center. I had always wanted to go see the tree, but we never had the chance. We decided to go to NYC the weekend of January 3rd. We got to New York in the morning on January 3rd and walked around the city for most of the day, seeing all the usual sights: 5th Avenue, Grand Central Station, Times Square, and finally, we made our last stop at Rockefeller Center. We both took a few pictures and selfies in front of the tree (of course). Then suddenly, Brian saw two photographers standing near the entrance taking pictures of people in front of the tree. Brian told me to wait there in front of the tree as he spoke to them a few feet away. I knew right then that he was up to something! The photographers took our picture in front of the tree and then Brian turned to me and said “Can I ask you a question?” And that’s when I knew! Brian told me how much he loved me and couldn’t wait to spend the rest of his life with me. Before I knew it, he was down on one knee asking me to marry him in the middle of Rockefeller Center.

Of course I said yes!
