How We Met
Believe it or not, Tinder dates can lead to lasting love! We swiped right on each other a little over three years ago, and after texting and chatting for a few weeks, I finally agreed to meet up for dinner and drinks on a random Friday night in April of 2015. We enjoyed sliders and good conversation, which led to a cocktail nightcap and a goodnight kiss. The rest, as they say, is history! Consistent Friday date nights turned into a budding relationship and we’ve been inseparable ever since. He was the first and only person I met off of Tinder in person, so to me, it really worked!
How He Asked
We recently started a couple’s blog all about the life, style, and history of the city we are proud to call home – Detroit called Dssentials. We had been out shooting photos with my girlfriend who is also a blogger/photographer for upcoming content on our website and social channels. About three hours into our Saturday afternoon, we changed for the final time and headed to Belle Isle, a beautiful state-park island just north of Downtown with beautiful cityscape views. We met another of our photographer friends there to shoot what I thought was some behind-the-scenes video content for the blog to use on our about page. Little did I know, I was about to get engaged! About five minutes into snapping shots, Andrew exited stage left to have our friends snap some solo shots of me.
He grabbed an envelope out of my girlfriend’s purse and upon opening it, I was faced with three Detroit postcards featuring a poem. He asked me to read it out loud, and as I started, I realized it was one he had actually written to me a few years prior, with minor updates. The first two cards were all fun and light-hearted, with inside jokes and funny rhymes.
Then, as I turned to the third page, the stanzas got more serious and heartfelt, using rhyming words like “bride” and “life’s wild ride”. Only then did it start to click. I tearfully finished the last line, and turned to face him as he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!
I obviously said yes! It was so special because our home is actually in the background of some of the photos that were taken at the moment – a perfect testament to the life we’ve built together in a city we both love so much.
