Elizabeth and Christian
How We Met
Christian and I met in our American Government class during September of our Junior Year of High School in 2011. Christian reached out to me to be partners on multiple occasions, as he was in the row next to mine, and it wasn’t long before we became good friends. One day I felt a tap on my shoulder from the girl who sat behind me as she whispered in my ear “I think he likes you!”
At first I didn’t believe it, until about two months later when Christian would ask me to be his girlfriend. I declined, but he was persistent. Throughout the remainder of the year he would ask me to be his girlfriend a few more times. In April of that school year he asked me to be his Prom date, and I graciously accepted. We had a great time, but we were still just friends. A couple months later, when Summer break just began, Christian asked me to go out for the night in Newport, Rhode Island with him. At the end of the night, he asked me to be his girlfriend again, having never lost feelings for me since September when we met, and at that point, I couldn’t say no. We’ve been together ever since, and we couldn’t be happier!
How He Asked
Christian and I had been spending the weekend in Denmark, Maine, where I’ve been going every Summer since I was 3 years old. We have a house on the lake where we spend our summers, and we spend our winters skiing on Shawnee Peak Mountain. The amazing thing about this mountain is that the ski slopes spell out “LOV”. This is something I’ve admired since I was a little girl so it was perfect for a proposal!
Prior to our weekend in Maine, Christian had recommended a photoshoot in front of the “LOV” mountain which I immediately thought was a great idea. Being a fashion blogger, having a photographer around is nothing out of the ordinary. He told me our photographer and friend Jocelyn would be in New Hampshire that weekend so she could easily take a trip to Maine for a photoshoot. First, we spent time paddling around the mountain in a canoe, but as the water got rough we headed back to shore and set up a picnic.
It wasn’t until I saw the lights come on the mountain that I got suspicious. Spending so much time in the area I knew the lights are only turned on while people are skiing. Jocelyn photographed the picnic for a few minutes and then Christian got on his knee and proposed!
It was absolutely magical to be proposed to in such a beautiful way, in a place I’ve loved since I was a little girl and I am beyond excited to be engaged to my high school sweetheart!
