Eliza and Chuck
How We Met
Our love story began like so many epic tales before us, with some late-night Tindering. I was bored on a business trip and decided to swipe through some cyber suitors. Chuck caught my eye right away with a picture of him zip-lining through the Costa Rican jungle. It was his mustache that really sealed the deal for me. I took a look at his bio. It read, “I like to have fun.” And wouldn’t you know! All my bio said was, “I’m fun.” So I swiped right and boom! It was a match.
We went out on our first date a couple of night’s later. It’d been about a trillion years since I went on a date so I was a little nervous. When I’m feeling anxious I tend to lean on my more sophisticated conversation topics. Like, what’s your favorite color? Or, what Hogwarts house do you think you’d be in? (I’m a Hufflepuff and Chuck’s a Slytherin, by the way.) So I was excited to hear what words fell out of my mouth while I stared at this dreamboat: “If you could visit any city in the U.S. that you haven’t already been to, where would you go?”
“New Orleans,” Chuck said.
We visited New Orleans together for our one year anniversary and have been going back ever since.
How He Asked
This time, we were visiting New Orleans for our friends’ 10 year wedding anniversary. They rented out an incredible house and hosted the most epic celebration of all times. All of the guests were decked out in extraordinary costumes. We spent the day exploring the city and ended the night back at our house for some performances. They had a brass band followed by a cabaret. And for the last act of the night, the MC asked for two volunteers.
Chuck ALWAYS gets picked for audience participation. It’s honestly kind of insane how it happens every time. So I wasn’t surprised in the least when they called him up. They told him to pick a partner and he called my name. I immediately went into the zone, calling upon my years of high school improv experience. I was ready for whatever they threw at us. Or so I thought. Because before I knew it Chuck was down on one knee. And for the first time in my life, I was speechless. The rest is a wild & wonderful blur. The room went from silence to roaring with celebrations from all of our friends. It was the best moment of my whole darn life.
