How We Met
We were 20 years old and ended up meeting in one of the most unconventional ways: at a rave. Out of all places..it was March of 2011 and a mutual friend at the event introduced us and I can say this with the most certainty, it was love at first sight. At least for me anyways. We ended spending the entire time together dancing the night away.
I lived part time with my cousin at the time and when I got back to the house around 6 am I woke her up and told her “that is the man I’m going to marry”. I knew right then and there he was my forever. Because he lived in Orange County and I still was in Highland our relationship was strictly a friendship. But shortly after meeting I ended up moving full time to Orange County with my parents while going to college in Irvine.
We had the same group of friends and so we were always going out together but still only as friends. It wasn’t until Eli had a major health scare that kinda ended up bringing us together. He later told me that he had always wanted to be with me but it was the scare that put priorities in line for him. We have been inseparable ever since and the rest is history.
How He Asked
Disney holds an exceptionally special place in our hearts as we live here in Orange County and we make it a weekly ritual to visit Disneyland. But it has always been my dream to one day visit Walt Disney World. We were finally able to go in April for the first time to celebrate my birthday. So to kick off our vacation we had reservations for one of the most romantic restaurants on property; the California Grill at the top of the Contemporary Resort overlooking Magic Kingdom.
We chose a late reservation in order to watch Magic Kingdom’s firework show Wishes from the hotel’s rooftop first before dinner. As we are watching the firework show, Eli begins to talk to me about our lives, our future and reassuring me of the love I’ve always known these last 6 years we have been together. But as the firework finale beings he turns me around and is on one knee asking me to marry him!
I was a complete mess, shaking, crying and yelling “YES!” over and over again. As I look around I see he had a photographer waiting in the background to capture our once in a lifetime moment. Everything was perfect, the music, the fireworks and him. Turns out that the whole restaurant was in on it and they reserved a special table for us to sit against the floor to ceiling windows with views of Cinderella’s Castle. Topped with mickey confetti, our “Happily Ever After” buttons and glasses of champagne to celebrate.
I’m incredibly close with my mom and dad and so of course I had to call them to say what had just happened but they already knew! (I guess they have been waiting for this call all day!) Eli had asked my parents’ permission beforehand and that meant the absolute world to me that he had done that. I’m not going to pretend I wasn’t like every other little girl out there always secretly planning how they expect their proposals to be, but this was better than anything I could have ever dreamed of and I can’t wait for our very own Happily Ever After.
