Elena and Louis

How We Met

I was fresh out of graduating from college and was out celebrating at a local bar with my best friend.  I spotted Louis sitting at the bar, and said to Maureen “wow, he’s cute! And definitely not from around here, or else I would have seen him before!” We scoped (more like stalked) him out all night, until finally Maureen struck up conversation with his friend. We all got to talking and I finally got the guts to talk to him! I found out Louis was a Marine who had just started college and moved to an apartment near by! We were both automatically drawn to each other’s easy going demeanor and mutual love for conversation.  After a few dates, we found ourselves unable to be without each other, constantly going out and checking out restaurants or staying in a cooked gourmet dinners — we bonded over our love for travel and food.

How He Asked

We had been dating for 4 1/2 years when we had finally decided we were ready to get married.  Summer 2015 was filled with mini-trips that certainly kept me on the edge of my seat!  A trip to beautiful Mystic Seaport, a trip to the Rhode Island Shore, time spent in South Florida–there were endless times when I thought “oh my gosh this could be it!” But he kept me guessing.  One Saturday it was really beautiful out and we decided to take a trip to our favorite local vineyard for some red wine and to share some appetizers.  We spent the day basking in the sun in lounge chairs, sipping on vino and enjoying eachother’s company.  After about three hours of being there, Louis asked if I was ready to head out and I agreed it was time.  We packed up our things and were ready to jump in the car when Louis said he had the urge to buy a bottle of wine for later on and wanted to run back inside to get some.  I gladly went with him, but instead of purchasing just a bottle, we purchased to glasses too, and asked if I wanted to walk around the vineyard.  Again, I gladly obliged.  We walked around the vineyard for about 20 minutes when in a row a spotted a red and white checkered blanket.  He guided me over to it and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.  Amongst a waterfall of (happy) tears, I said yes! He gave me the most beautiful diamond ring I had ever seen!  We are getting married in a winter wonderland on February 27th, 2016.
