How We Met
So, here I was at the bottom of the Eiffel tower, toying with the ring in my pocket as if I was Gollum in Lord of the Rings. The time has come. Looking back at the past five years, I would have never imagined proposing to the love of my life in Paris, the city of love, the place she always dreamed it would happen. So here we were. Five years after seeing each other for the first time. Five years ago, I met a beautiful girl that captured my attention from the moment I saw her. At the time, I was not ready for a relationship due to my life being in a tough spot. I was in my last year of full-time college classes and was also working a full-time job, and would have not much time for someone else. Even with all that doubt and insecurity, I pulled the trigger.
From that moment, she has been there with me every step of the way. During that last year of school and all my frustrations, she bore it with me. After graduation, I had a low period of uncertainty and depression because I had no idea what I was going to do with my life, and still she stood by me. Even when I told her I wanted to make video games for a living, as crazy as that was, she supported me and told me she would always support me. She’s stuck with me through it all. She’s been my anchor, my rock, my friend, and the only one who has truly believed in me through times when even I don’t believe in myself. I am eternally grateful that fate has brought us together. I’m lucky that life has led me to find that special person that everyone hopes to one day find.
How He Asked
So, here I was at the bottom of the Eiffel tower, toying with the ring in my pocket, ready to take the next step. On the way up the tower, I planned how I was going to pop the question in my head countless times. At the top of the tower, we started walking around, looking over the city and taking all the pictures. This was it, the moment of truth. As we kept walking around, I was hoping the right timing would hit, but it didn’t. Before heading back down, I asked if we could take another lap around because it’s not every day you are at the top of the Eiffel Tower, right?!
My chance to pop the question came when she asked me to take a picture of her looking through a tower viewer. So while I started to take her picture, and her posing with her face away from me, I reached into my pocket, popped out the ring, and started to think in my head what I was going to say. As soon as I take her picture, she turns to me and sees me holding out the ring. At this point I am speechless. Literally. I did not say a word. I did not make a peep. I just looked at her and smiled. No kneeling, no proposal, just holding out the ring and experiencing the strangest feeling I had ever experienced. A mix of excitement, nervousness, and wonder. She looked at me and then walked towards me. So here we were, standing at the top of the Eiffel Tower, embracing each other in a quiet moment of emotions. My mind recalled to all the years we’ve been together, and every moment we have shared. But all I focused on was her soft whisper to me. A moment I will never forget. “Yes”!
From the Bride To Be: Where to being? I met Pedro when I had been living in the U.S. for only ten months. I wasn’t looking for a relationship and neither was he, but we all know life never goes according to plan. Five years later, here we are, happier than I thought we could ever be. Pedro is not just my partner, he’s my one and only, my other half. He’s the first person I call when I am sad and the first person I call when I am happy. We had decided to go to Europe for the first time this past August, and something had told me this was it. I even told my dog “when mommy and daddy come back from Europe, they will be engaged!” Pedro laughed and said he didn’t know what I was talking about. I’ve never been the type of girl to always talk or dream about marriage, but the longer I had spent with him, the more I’d ask myself when he would pop the question. Go figure.
We first stopped in London, and London was one of those cities that take your breath away. When I was a little girl, this was the city I dreamed of visiting all the time. Being born and raised in Cuba, this was highly unlikely to happen, but still, here I was, years later, making my dreams come true. I was extremely nervous, thinking that every place we would go would be it. But… it didn’t happen in London. We then visited Paris. Oh my God, Paris. We planned a tour to visit the summit of the Eiffel Tower on the morning of August 5th, 2017. It was a very chilly morning but I was very warm. I was enjoying this ride up like no one else in that elevator and I was also extremely on edge. I had a feeling that this was going to be it, so I tried to contain myself as much as I could. We started going around taking pictures and it didn’t take longer than 10 minutes until I decided it was time to head back down. But… Pedro said, “Let’s take another lap, it’s not every day we are at top of the Eiffel Tower.” After that moment, I don’t remember much of how I got to the tower viewer, asked him to take a picture of me looking away from the camera and looking back at him holding my ring for the first time.
When I saw my future husband’s smiley and teary face at the top of that tower, all I could do was hug him and sweetly whisper to his ear “yes”. This was the best moment of my entire life.
