Ed and Isabel | Instagram Proposal

How I Asked: Knowing that we’d see her friends and family that weekend, I proposed that Thursday on her birthday. We had dinner reservations near Balboa Park, which was where we “hung out” for the first time, and I suggested we take a stroll in the park prior to dinner. During our walk, we talked about her hopes for the upcoming year/decade, and how I could pray for and support her in those goals. We “stumbled into a garden” where we spent some time prayer near a bench overlooking the California Tower and the Museum of Man. Shortly thereafter, I told her I had a surprise for her! I had kept a secret Instagram account throughout our relationship and had posted photos of various milestones in real-time. As we scrolled through the pictures, we laughed, smiled, made fun of each other as we went down memory lane. The last photo was a picture of a closed ring box with the caption: “I have something to ask you…” With that, I proposed and she said YES!

Recall, I said “stumbled into a garden.” I knew I wanted to capture the proposal in some form, and I had met with Samantha earlier to photograph the whole thing. She even brought her boyfriend to use as a decoy model… so it wouldn’t be obvious that she was taking pictures of us. Luckily, my fiance never caught on, and we are overjoyed to have beautiful photographs to forever capture our special moment.
