Dylan and Robert
How He Asked
“I want to take you to Long Beach to get lobster rolls tomorrow” said Rob. This is how it all began, and I was not in the least bit suspicious. The next day, on August 26th, 2017, Rob decided to change the restaurant to a place called Walls Wharf in Bayville. I said “how come? Do they have Lobster rolls?”. Rob said, “because it is a nicer place and no I don’t think they do”. I was so confused, why would we go there if there are no lobster rolls? But, I decided to just go with the flow. In the car on the way to the restaurant, Rob was incredibly quiet. I carry a very large water bottle with me everywhere I go, and he drank the ENTIRE thing in the time it took to drive 15 minutes. He was so nervous! When we got to the restaurant, they told us it would be about a 40 minute wait. He said “okay, let’s go walk on the beach”. I obliged, still unsuspecting. The beach turned out to be very small, and we could only walk a little bit before we would have to turn back. Rob, unsure of where to go, lead me to a little bridge overlooking the whole beach and ocean. I stood with my back to him looking out into the water, and then felt him embrace me from behind. He said “Okay, I really can’t wait anymore”.
I said, “me either, I AM STARVING I can’t wait to eat!”. He said “No babe”, turned me around and said “not for the food. I was going to wait until after our meal, but I can’t wait anymore. I love you so much, I always have.” He the started reaching into his pocket and slowly getting down on one knee. I said “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”.
He then continued, “I love you, I love our life together, I love our boys. I’ve wanted to do this for a very long time, and I know you have wanted this for a very long time. He pulled out THE MOST GORGEOUS RING I HAVE EVER SEEN, and said “Dylan Radler, will you marry me?”.
I can’t honestly say what my response in the moment was, because I immediately began sobbing into my hands. Of course the answer was YES. It was the most perfect proposal, in the most perfect place, better than I could have ever dreamt it to be. It was written in the stars.
