Dixie and Jason
How We Met
Jason and I met in August 2015 in Kingsville, TX (my hometown) while he was stationed at the naval base for flight training. We met blindly at a dinner at Water Street Oyster Bar in Corpus Christi, where I was residing at the time. We both went to dinner not expecting to have found “the one”. However, after sharing some seafood and cocktails, we both realized that we had found someone special.
We were inseparable ever since… Well not exactly. The United States Marine Corps had a different agenda. Jason was relocated to North Carolina in Fall 2016 while I had just started my first semester in graduate school. After a couple of months, I decided that the relationship was worth moving 1300 miles away and moved to North Carolina. It was “almost” the best decision of my life.
How He Asked
After I had to move back to Texas to finish graduate school in January 2018, I had been a bit overwhelmed with school and the stress that accompanies long distance. We were also starting to prepare for Jason’s first overseas deployment this fall. After I had called Jason to discuss when my next visit would be, Jason said he wanted to plan a trip so we can relax and have some fun. He suggested that we go to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Mainly because history and wine are two of our favorite things.
We walked throughout the gardens and toured the estate for approximately 3 hours. After the tour, Jason told me he wanted to walk up a high hill to overlook the Biltmore House and the mountains. We were the only ones at the top of the hill… or at least I had thought. Jason began to get nervous, got down on his knee, and asked me to be his wife. I said YES which was THE BEST DECISION of my life. I then heard the sound of someone taking pictures and realized that he had hired a photographer to capture the moment that we will never forget!
