Destiny and Jonny

Where to Propose in On Top of the Rockefeller Center, NYC NY

How We Met

We were both members of the Marching 110, our University’s marching band. We had matched on Tinder and had a few very cheesy conversations, thanks to his corny pickup lines. We bumped into each other at a party one night and since then we have been inseparable. We began dating on December 1, 2015, and he told me he loved me for the first time just 2 short weeks after. He told me he loved me for the first time behind a soda machine somewhere in Alabama at a rest area in the middle of the night.

How He Asked

He always told me that he wanted to ask me to marry him “on top of the world”, but when I went to visit him in New York for Spring Break I wasn’t expecting a proposal! We went to the top of the Rockefeller Center on a Friday at sunset and it was absolutely beautiful. The sky was a wild assortment of orange, pink, and blue. He snatched my phone away from me and told me that he wanted to take a picture, and he then wandered away to find someone who would be willing to spare a few moments. I posed for a photo with the sun setting behind us, the Empire State building perfectly framed with us, when he suddenly brought up the soda machine and the first time he said he loved me.

Then before I knew it he was down on one knee and he had asked me to spend forever with him. I was shocked! Of course, I said yes and people began cheering and clapping while we stood there hugging and crying. It was a beautiful moment. Afterward, he read me a poem that he wrote, which he forgot to read at the moment, but it was all so perfect that we didn’t mind. I am so ready to be with Jonny forever! He is truly my best friend.
