Desiree and Daniel
How We Met
If anyone has ever dated online, they know that computer algorithms are often terrible matchmakers. But in October of 2015, an algorithm paired Daniel and Desiree, a match that was beyond numbers and calculations. After some text message banter, Dan decided to ask Desiree out for a drink. She picked the Valley Bar and warned him she would be in a Halloween costume since her office had dressed up. So on October 30th, Daniel looked for Rosie the Riveter in a PHX speakeasy, and after a couple of drinks and a very talkative Rosie, date one was in the books.
How He Asked
On September 6th, after a trip to Lebanon to meet Dan’s family (where they went paragliding!), they flew to Paris for a European adventure. After landing in France they drove into the city, where Dan had a romantic evening planned for Desiree’s first night in Paris … the twinkling Eiffel Tower and a fancy dinner. But little did they know the night would be a comedy of errors.
Desiree left her glasses in the Uber and was panicking as she thought about how awful sightseeing would be, well, without her sight, and Dan was panicking as this was the night he was going to propose. But after a frantic miniature circus of calls, Dan was able to use what French he knew to get the Uber driver to turn around! They got dressed up and Dan chose Pont de Bir-Hakeim for the perfect nighttime view of the Eiffel Tower.
Desiree noticed a photographer and thought she would be upset that they were in her shots, not knowing she was there for them. Dan asked Desiree if she was happy she had her glasses back, to which she responded “Yes!” He then said he wanted to make her happy for the rest of her life. Getting down on one knee he asked, “Will you be my wife?” To which she, of course, responded, “Yes!” It was the most perfect, and truly romantic night. The photographer captured the moment and Desiree’s sister set up a surprise engagement shoot for them the next day to capture the newly engaged couple in Paris.
