Where to Propose in Neuschwanstein Castle, Schwangau, Germany

How We Met

In the summer of 2010, I met Dennis at the Porter County Fair in Indiana. Dennis was working with the pony rides which happened to be right next to the American Greyhound tent. My mother was Vice President of the American Greyhound organization (a greyhound rescue group) at the time, and I was helping out with running the stand at the fair. I was walking my two greyhounds Lowell and Trojan around the fair when I first saw Dennis by the ponies. Since I love horses I went over to him and asked if I was allowed to pet the ponies, and Dennis said “Sure!” This led to us striking up a 3-hour long conversation, and eventually exchanging contact information. From this point onward, we quickly became best friends. Our friendship went on to last for another two years before we ever began dating.

How He Asked

It was a snowy afternoon in December 2016, and we had just toured one of the most romantic castles in Bavaria: Neuschwanstein. After walking down the hill from the castle and taking in the beautiful sights of a lake surrounded by snow-covered mountains, Dennis decided we should take a walk around the perimeter of the small lake. He insisted we take a look at this bridge that went over a stream, which was in a more secluded area. I thought it was a bit strange that he had so much interest in this small bridge, but decided to go with it as he enjoys photography and figured he was just wanting a good “shot.” Once we made it to the more secluded area, he took my hands in his and started to tell me how much he loved me and why he’s so happy we are together. I was a bit confused as neither of us are the super, romantic sappy type but I just went with the moment. He started to talk about how he can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together, and before I knew it he was on one knee. I had been waiting for this moment for about 4 years and once it was right in front of me I was in utter disbelief. I even laughed, thinking he wasn’t serious. But when he pulled out the gorgeous flower shaped ring, I knew he meant it. After, a few gasps and shaking of the head I said yes! It was an even more perfect moment than I could have ever asked for.
