Deena and Henry
How We Met
After I graduated from high school, I decided to take a gap year and study abroad before attending college. Not only was it the best year of my life, I met Henry. On October 26, 2009 we met. I was hanging out at a local hot spot in town and noticed the cutest boy across the room. It was love at first sight – and I never believed in that nonsense. I had a box of cookies in my hand so I went over and introduced myself and offered him a snack. He rejected my food and left to be with his friends, and from that moment on, I knew one day we’d be married. I told all of my friends about Harry and at the time, I knew nothing about him besides for the fact that he was my soulmate. Each time I saw him, was a “dear diary” moment.
One day, he confronted me and told me I had his name wrong and that his name was Henry. We slowly became friends and crashed a few weddings together, slept on the beach one night and soon the year came to an end. Henry and I were both working at sleep-away camp that summer and then we’d be going off to college 3 hours away from each other. I knew he was the one, so we decided to give it a go and on June 24, 2010 we began dating. We have been together for 6 1/2 years now, and every day is even better than the next. He is my everything, my world, my rock, my best friend and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life by his side. I knew I loved him before I met him.
How He Asked
I am a Disney princess – no really, I am! Henry and I have visited Disney a few times together and I asked him if we could go for a few days for a quick getaway. He told me that timing wasn’t good, but maybe we could go soon. I begged him for a good three weeks, but he didn’t budge. One evening, Henry called me and told me he was going to pick me up from work because we were going to be playing a game together.
When he picked me up, he handed me an envelope with a number one written on it. Inside was a piece of paper that said “Tonight something special I have planned for you, it starts with this paper, its your first clue.” He took me on the cutest scavenger hunt around the mall and we ended up buying a few random items and the last clue was to pick up a sweatshirt at an embroidery shop. When I got to the counter, they handed me a sweatshirt with Minnie Mouse.
on the front and a clue on that back that said “The clues are a puzzle, hurry up we need to get back. The game continues tomorrow, we need time to pack.” Henry told me all of the things we just purchased in the scavenger hunt were for the costumes we were going to wear in Disney. I was SO excited! I felt like all of my begging really paid off. I quickly packed a bag and we went to the airport at 4 am. When we arrived in Orlando, we headed strait to Animal Kingdom and had a wonder day together. The following day, we went to Magic Kingdom, dressed as Minnie and Mickey.
We went on a few rides and took photos with a few characters and out of nowhere, Henry handed me a piece of paper that said, “I think you forgot there’s another clue, its by the bridge next to Cinderella’s castle, oh what a beautiful view!” We went to the castle and a photographer approached me and said, “I think you’re looking for this” as he handed me another piece of paper that said, “Disney is the most magical place filled with laughter, I hope you say yes and we live happily ever after!”. When I finished reading, I saw Henry down on one knee with a ring.
We had an afternoon plane to catch so we left Disney and when we got to the airport we realized our flight was in less than an hour so like crazy people we ran through the airport – in costume and just just made the flight only to realize the flight was delayed.
When we landed home, we were picked up by my father who drove us home and when we got inside, all of our family and friends were waiting to celebrate with us. It was the most magical day of my life. I have to look down at my hand to remind myself, it really did happen!
