Deborah and Evan
How We Met
Evan and I met while I was traveling to Dallas for work back in March of 2015. We stayed in contact and usually travel to see each other every other weekend, racking up thousands and thousands of miles.
How He Asked
We’d been planning a trip to attend a friend’s wedding in Portugal and decided that since Evan had never been to Europe we would go a few days early and visit France. Back in college, I had the opportunity to live in France, which is what made this trip even more special.
Since it would be Evans first time, I would be able to show him all the places used to visit and loved. In the 3 to 4 months leading up to the trip we’d been talking about taking the next step in our relationship and getting engaged. During those talks I kept hinting about this trip, and how “fairytale” it would be if it happened in Paris. But I also knew Evan wanted it to be a surprise, so no matter how much I hinted at Paris I was convinced he’d do it someplace else. Just days before we left I told my mom and best friend that I really wanted to get engaged in Paris or Lyon as these cities have so much significance to me personally. They both just laughed and changed the subject. Little did I know they both were in on the secret of what Evan had planned.
Evan and the photographer “Pierre” had been talking for weeks leading up to the trip and had everything planned out perfectly. We would show up and do a couple photos around the tower, then slowly start making our way into position. They even worked out a code phrase that would indicate when Pierre was ready and in position. As Pierre said, “this light is just perfect for a great shot”, Evan knew it was game time.
As we stood there face to face under the tower Evan squeezed my hand and said, ” I promised I wouldn’t be cliché, but….” he then dropped down on one knee and asked me to be his wife and to marry him. I of course said, “Oui!”
