Deanna and Dom
How We Met
I met Dom Hudspeth on April 13, 2013. Our first encounter did not go smoothly, I believe I told him to “stop talking to me” at one point, it was after a fun filled day (champagne and bourbon flowing) at Keeneland Race Track in Lexington, Kentucky. I was living in Bowling Green at the time but was actively looking for a big girl job in Lexington. I ended up going back to Lexington the very next weekend to see more horse racing just like any other Kentucky girl would do on a Saturday in April. This time God stepped in, I saw him again. I ran up and said “Hey, do you remember me from last weekend?” From that day on, we’ve talked everyday.
How He Asked
I am the owner of a small business called DC Blooms, we do event florals and wedding planning. It is not out of the norm to do a styled photo shoot with other wedding vendors in the Lexington area. Veronica Sparrow with Veronica Sparrow Photography had asked me to be the model for a shoot at Keeneland Race Track, I accepted. With it being wedding season for me, my busy schedule had me wanting to cancel the whole thing. I actually woke up the day before the shoot with a really red eye and tried to cancel it multiple times. I did flowers with one eye open that night and was simply exhausted. When I woke up Saturday morning my eye was much better so I decided to go through with it. Dom was pushing me to do it, he had even given me money to buy a new dress. I delivered flowers that morning for my sorority (Chi Omega) then headed to get my hair and make up done by Sara with Sara Drury Local Looks.
After she made me pretty, we both headed out to Keeneland to meet the photographer. After shooting for about 15 minutes at the gorgeous track, Veronica handed me a piece of paper. I started reading it, it stated how many months, day, hours that someone had known me. I still had NO CLUE what was happening, I looked at Veronica like she was crazy for writing me a love note. I quickly skipped to the bottom and realize it’s Dom’s hand writing.
I was too confused to read the whole note, and began looking around, Dom came around the corner and I realized what was happening. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
I said “YES, did you ask my dad?” Turns out that he had set this entire photo shoot up.
He made me promise to wait until after dinner to call our parents, friends and family. I agreed, then we headed downtown to Tony for our first meal as an engaged couple. When we walked into the restaurant, our parents were sitting at a huge booth waiting for us. I was so shocked to see them, it was the best moment and I couldn’t have been happier that they were there.
After dinner, my dad suggested grabbing a drink before they headed back to the farm. We decided on one of our favorite bars, Belle’s Cocktail House. I walked up the stairs and there were ALL of our closest friends and family. There were friends from Atlanta, Nashville, and Bowling Green all waiting for us. IT WAS PERFECT!
My friends and family mean the world to me and Dom knows that. We celebrated all night long! Dom pulled off the most perfect proposal. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him.
