How We Met
In the summer of 2011 we were both volunteering at a church youth camp. We were introduced by a couple mutual friends. We’d had a lot of the same friends for years, and though I’d heard people talk about him before, we never met until then. As soon as we did meet, I was intrigued. I took to social media to find out more about him (basically if he had a girlfriend) and spent a good part of the summer not so subtly watching him drum from the back of the room. Over the summer we got closer and became really good friends. We (finally) started dating that December.
How He Asked
We’ve been talking about marriage for a while so it wasn’t a huge surprise, but he’d convinced me that we wouldn’t be engaged for a while. I was trying not to get my hopes up, but I was secretly hoping for a magical, snowy, winter proposal.
The night he proposed was on our four year anniversary. We had already planned on celebrating so nothing seemed out of the ordinary. After dinner he told me we had to make a quick stop at a friend’s house. He had a playlist of all “our songs” playing the whole way there. I still had no clue.
When we got there, he took my hand and lead me into a backyard strung with lights and photos of us over the years. There were candles lit all around and the snow was falling perfectly. I couldn’t believe it was actually happening exactly how I imagined. He got on one knee and asked me to marry him. It couldn’t have been any more beautiful.
