Danielle and Joseph
How We Met
Joey and I have been dating since I was 15-years-old. We met in high school, I was a sophomore and he was a junior who just transferred in from a different school. Joey was the newest player for our hockey team and of course I had the biggest crush on him. Ironically enough, he sat behind me in chemistry class and we started to become friends. I would go to his hockey games every weekend and he would come to my gymnastics meets every weekend. After a few months of continual butterflies, Joey asked me to be his girlfriend on February 14, 2010 (Valentine’s Day of course!) and we never looked back. Even though he went off to prep school and we both went to different colleges, we never once questioned one day we would get married. We grew up together surrounded by our friends and families and together we conquered every obstacle thrown our way.
Of course for our engagement pictures we had to put our high school jackets back on!
How He Asked
Joey and I often visit Beavertail State Park during the spring and summer months, so when Joey told me about his plan of heading to Beavertail for sunset and getting dinner afterward, I thought it was going to be an ordinary date night. It was a bit chilly outside when we arrived, so Joey stopped to grab a “jacket” out of the trunk where he was hiding the ring box! While walking down to the cliffs, Joey set our GoPro in the sand where he told me we would be taking pictures. It is not uncommon for us to take pictures on timer, so I really did not think much of it!
Before I knew it, I turned around and Joey was on one knee asking me to marry him. I did not even see the ring at first because I was overcome with tears and emotions, unable to believe this moment was really happening. I continued to sob in disbelief as Joey stood up and put the ring on my finger. We made our way back to the car where Joey played the CD I gave him for our one year anniversary over 7 years ago. I began crying again thinking back on how much we had gone through over the years and how I had dreamt of this moment since we began dating in high school. After we both collected ourselves from the tears, Joey drove us to a restaurant on the water where he reserved our own private table covered in rose petals. The night was out of a dream and I still cannot believe this is all real!
