Danielle and Jon
How We Met
We met through mutual friends at a trivia night, which was a weekly tradition for my friends and me. We were friends for about a year before we went on our first date.
How He Asked
Jon surprised me with a proposal at our house when I got home from work the night before New Years Eve. He asked when I’d be home from work and I told him 6:00, which turned into 6:30. Jon is always early, so he had everything ready and was fully dressed in his suit at 5:00 – so he spent an hour and a half pacing our kitchen and practicing what he would say. My coworkers knew that we’d been looking at rings and ironically we’d been talking about proposals all day at work, so it was kind of on my brain. When I pulled up to our house, I noticed the lights looked a little low through the windows and when I walked in I immediately heard music playing and saw rose petals on the ground and knew that it was happening. Jon had written reasons why he loves me on little notes and attached them to rose petals and put them on the wall going up the stairs to the living room. When I got to the top, the room was covered in candles and rose petals and he had the ring surrounded by votives in a heart shape. He had his speech prepared and of course I said yes. His speech was actually so amazing and adorable that I asked him to say it again probably 4 more times so that I could totally capture the memory of what that was like (he could probably still say the speech by memory). I’d always said I didn’t want a public proposal and after we reenacted the proposal over and over I was glad Jon had listened!
