Lauren and Daniel

how we met

Daniel and I met when we both began working at Ponderosa Pines, a winter camp located in Running Springs, CA. We were both last minute add ons to the winter camp staff. We met on the first day of camp and barely spoke to each other as we were both shy and unwilling to put ourselves out there. Over the course of the camp season Daniel and I began to spend more time together and we quickly realized that we had the same sense of humor and beliefs but totally different interests. On the second to last weekend of camp Daniel asked me out on our first official date. For our date we hiked Mt. Rubidoux, in Riverside, CA. The hike was only 45 minutes but we spent another 2 hours at the top of the mountain talking about our families, our likes, dislikes, what we saw for ourselves in the future, etc. The conversation flowed so naturally it was like we’d known each other our whole lives.

Daniel and I both lived and attended schools in different cities in California and throughout our 4 years of dating we only saw each other once a week. We both knew that our relationship was something special so we made the sacrifice to drive either from San Diego to LA or LA to San Diego every week just to spend a little bit of time with each other.

how he asked

On November 10th, 2015 Daniel and I took the day off from work and spent the day at the happiest place on earth, Disneyland! We’d gone there multiple times throughout our relationship, in fact it was the place where we first said “I love you”. After spending the whole day at Disneyland we watched the parade and started heading towards the exit when Daniel pulled me to the side during the firework show and said “I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” to which I replied, “Are you serious?!” he laughed and said yes and I yelled “of course.”

Little did I know our entire families were in on the surprise. His brother-in-law and sister were hiding and taking pictures of the proposal while all of our family members were outside waiting to celebrate with signs and flowers.

Of course the people exiting Disneyland saw the signs and expected there to be a proposal so a crowd formed outside the gate and when we got outside he proposed to me again in front of everyone. So at the end of the day, I got two marriage proposals by my best friend and love of my life!
