Alexa and Daniel
How we met
That’s a tough one. Daniel and I grew up in NYC and can recall countless occasions when we were in the same room and met briefly through mutual friends. Once we found out we were going to college together, though, a real connection was made (well, kind of). Daniel sent me a Facebook message the day after he got accepted to Trinity College, on June 11th 2009. We exchanged numbers and a week or so after, exchanged a kiss (very unlike me) after coincidentally finding each other at the same bar.
We ran into each other a few more times that summer and once freshman year started, we were placed in the same dorm, English seminar and were on track to be Economics majors. Sitting next to a familiar face in class turned into walking to class together and that eventually turned into studying together, even if it wasn’t for the same classes. By the end of freshman year, I still hadn’t picked up on the signs and thought of us as very close friends. So, I shut him down when he told me he didn’t want to be just friends anymore. Though the situation became super awkward, we ended up spending more time together than ever during those last two weeks of school. At some point in between the stress of finals, it hit me: if Daniel and I started dating, I would want to marry him. It was in that moment I realized how much I liked Daniel too. We went on our first official date in late May and became a couple on June 11th, 2010. Fast forward almost eight years later and here we are!
How he asked
Daniel and I fell in love quickly and were always excited about marriage, so getting engaged was a fairly open discussion for us over the years. I am convinced I knew something was up the day of… especially when Daniel asked if I wanted to take a shot before heading to our favorite restaurant, L’Artusi, for his birthday. We ordered our usual favorites and received a few extra menu items – I figured it was because they knew I was @EatingNYC. After our entrees were cleared, we started talking about how much we love each other. It’s a blur, but within 30 seconds Daniel got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. We hugged, we cried and we laughed until the meal was over.
After dinner, we decided to meet up with some of Daniel’s friends at a lounge nearby. When I entered the room, I was surprised to find all of our closest friends and family there to celebrate our engagement. It was truly the best night of our lives and will be until our wedding on 4/21/18. The best part is, Daniel still asks me to marry him almost everyday.
