Courtney and James
How We Met
James and I met back in 2010 through his sister Lori. We were friends for a little over a year before we started dating. His family welcomed me as their own long before we were a couple. Tons of memories of crazy nights out and family events shared brought us closer together. One night in 2011, we all went to the casino in Marksville, LA and as we were walking back to the car, James made it a point to make sure he opened his truck door for me. For some reason that just struck a chord with me, and I guess you could say that was the moment I fell in love with him. :)
How He Asked
Originally James wanted to take me to Vegas (we have never been), and ask me there. However, I like to unintentionally make things difficult and decided that we shouldn’t spend the money on a vacation so close to Christmas! So he had to come up with a back up plan – NOLA! My hometown and our favorite city. I hadn’t been to the New Orleans Christmas festivities in years, and I had been wanting to go. So he booked a trip and asked his sister, Lori, and her boyfriend, Ashton, to join us. I was thrilled just to be going to see all the lights and “snow” on Fulton street. Well the day comes, and James wakes up at what seems like the crack of dawn to get ready for our trip. He’s cleaning and detailing his truck, and I even mentioned to Lori and Ashton, “Gee, he must be pretty anxious to get on the road!” Little did I know what he had up his sleeve!! So we get on the road, drop off the puppies to my parents (who seemed waaaayyy to happy to watch those bad dogs lol), and head into the city. Now James usually can’t sit still for too long, but this day he was unusually up and down and up and down – I thought he was just ready to drink!
So finally we get dressed for dinner and head down to Fulton Street for the festivities. We sit down in the middle of it all at Ernst Cafe to have a couple of drinks. Everyone kept asking ME where I wanted to go eat, and I kept saying “I don’t care, it doesn’t have to be fancy…” and so on. I couldn’t understand why they kept asking this! lol So finally James jumps up and says “Ok, let’s go take some pictures!” I laughed and looked at Lori like what the heck is his deal?! So we walk over the the entrance of Fulton Street, and stand in front of the huge ornament of lights that said “The Miracle on Fulton Street”. Lori and Ashton take their pictures first then it’s James and I’s turn. I’m standing there, ready waiting for him – fiddling around, and finally he looks at me and says, “Are you ready?” I started to say, “Yes, will you please turn and smile?!” But before I could he was getting down on one knee and said “Will you marry me?”
I was so shocked I could barely speak, just nodded YES! and hugged him. Then he asked, “Wait was that a yes?” I said “YES of course!” And that was that. It was even better than I ever could have imagined. He planned it perfectly!
