Courtney and Spencer

Courtney's Proposal in Forrest Park in St. Louis, MO

How We Met

We met at a mutual friend’s wedding. We both attended Missouri State University but never met each other while we were in school. My sorority sister married Spencer’s fraternity brother. During the wedding, Spencer approached my friend and her boyfriend and asked if they would want to go take photos in the photo booth. My friend said that we needed a fourth, so that is when Spencer looked at me and said: “Come join us!” We still have the silly photos from that night. Later we danced, talked and just spent a night to remember. A week later, we went on our first date! The rest is history.

How He Asked

Spencer and I have been together for two and a half years and throughout our relationship, he has known how much I love the Christmas season. For the last 6 months, we have taken turns surprising each other with a date each month. We had our surprise date set for December 16th, and he still remained silent on what exactly we were doing until the night began. We started off with dinner, where he drove me to the restaurant where we had our first date. From there he told me we had tickets to something at 7:30 pm, and asked if I wanted to do something in between to kill time, as it was only 6:30 when we left the restaurant. As we drove down the street, I suggested getting a quick drink, but instead, he mentioned taking a walk around Forest Park in St. Louis to look at Christmas lights.

Engagement Proposal Ideas in Forrest Park in St. Louis, MO

I was hesitant, as it was dark and probably 40 degrees, but followed along with his idea. We parked the car and began walking where he pointed out some Christmas lights in the distance. We walked closer to the lights to see what was going on, and as we got closer I realized it was a small pop up tent, covered in Christmas lights, right next to the fountain where he asked me to be his girlfriend.

Under the tent was a few individuals playing guitar and singing Mean to Me by Brett Eldredge, which has been our song since early in our relationship. We danced to the music and as we were dancing he got down on one knee and proposed! I instantly said yes and shortly after met all of our friends and family at a nearby bar to celebrate!
