Courtney and John

How We Met

John and I met at our mutual friend’s 25th birthday party in October 2014. We had each been best friends with our mutual friend for at least a decade. As it turns out, we had each gone to her themed birthday parties on the year that one of us didn’t go. Luckily for me, this was the first party we were actually at together! It was a pirate themed birthday bash and naturally, we had a treasure scavenger hunt. John and I had been introduced in the beginning of the party and immediately hit it off. We became partners for the hunt and ran through the house and her backyard collecting gold coins. We technically came in fourth place – but we both felt like the real winners that night. We’ve been inseparable ever since.

How He Asked

We had our first date two days after we met at a local, artist cafe in Collingswood, NJ named Grooveground. In June of 2016, John had surprised me with a lovely dinner and took me to the cafe afterward. We sat down in the same table we did on our first date, and he told me about how happy he was to be with me. He had said that our first date was the start of a “wonderful adventure” and that maybe tonight, could be the start of an even better one. He dropped down to one knee, in the busied cafe, and held up the ring and asked me to marry him. It was perfect.
