Courtney and Chad
How We Met
Chad and I met working together at Chili’s Bar and Grill. I remember not fully understanding him, but still liking him right away. He had the best spirit and a kind-hearted nature. One night we were serving partners and he wrote on our rotation sheet, “Padme and Anakin” instead of our first names. In case you don’t know, (although you likely do!), Padme and Anakin are tragic, star-crossed lovers in the Star Wars prequels. I thought this was pretty cute and even a little forward, so I asked if he wanted to get snacks after work. I wasn’t intending it to be a date, but…it was. We met at Applebee’s, the only restaurant opened that late, to get snacks after work. We shared the 2 for $22 and talked until Applebee’s closed and asked us to leave…oops! He paid and we took a walk in a nearby neighborhood afterward. I got to be the first person to wish him a happy birthday and he always says now that I ended up being his best gift. We said goodnight and hung out the very next day, and every day since.
How He Asked
I was told to free up my schedule for a special surprise date on May 12th. I was super excited and got a little dressed up as he told me to! May 12th finally rolled around and Chad took us to part one of two surprise locations. The drive took awhile and I wasn’t quite sure where we were headed. I was super excited when we arrived at my favorite place in the whole world, Bok Tower Gardens. Bok Tower Gardens is one of the most beautiful places in Florida (in my opinion) and also where we spent our one year anniversary. We walked to the Oriental Moon Gate Garden where he got on one knee, told me he loved me and asked me to marry him!
Considering I’ve never known someone as gentle, kind-hearted, fun, and sweet as Chad, the answer was easy. Members of our families hopped out of hiding and took photos for us! We all got to explore the gardens together and take lots of photos in my favorite place on earth. Little did I know then, but Chad had also made 5 PM reservations for all of us to eat at an awesome restaurant in Disney Springs. His coordination, planning, and love made it the best proposal I could’ve ever asked for and I loved having our families there to celebrate it all with us.
