Ciera and Taylor
How We Met
Taylor and I first met when we were in high school at a mutual friend’s 18th birthday party. We had both lived in the same city our whole lives, but had always attended different schools. After meeting that night, we began talking and quickly became best friends. Over the course of a year, we spoke almost every day and hung out often. It never crossed my mind that he was actually was interested in me, as I secretly was in him. A year later, he spontaneously kissed me on Valentine’s Day. I remember being in shock that he felt the same way about me as I did about him. The rest is history. Taylor and I have now been dating for almost 7 years and his proposal was like a dream come true.
How He Asked
Taylor works for the Palm Springs Fire Department and we were in town for the annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade. The parade is a huge deal for the city, bringing around 100,000 people to watch it every year. He surprised me the day of the event by telling me he didn’t have to work that night. Later that day, some of our friends and family arrived. We all headed to the parade starting point to see the fire trucks his department had decorated. It was then that Taylor surprised me again and told me that we were going to be riding on the departments oldest fire truck in the parade! He had helped decorate it the weekend before and it looked amazing!
Right before it started, Taylor told me that the truck was going to make a stop in front of my family so that we could take a Christmas picture. The parade began and we headed down the street. The truck stopped and we stood up (which I thought was for the picture). Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! BEST SURPRISE EVER!!!
So many people were cheering for us. It was like something out of a movie. Taylor even hid champagne and glasses in the truck, which we got to enjoy as we went down the parade route. The city announced us over the microphone as the first couple to ever get engaged on the light parade. Riding in the beautiful fire truck at night with all the sparkling lights, at Christmas time (my favorite holiday), with so many people cheering for us, and the love of my life by my side was better than anything I could ever imagine!
I was and still am overwhelmed with joy. I can’t believe he got the city to pause the busiest parade of the year for our moment. I feel like the luckiest girl alive! I can’t wait to marry the man of my dreams!
