Chelsea and Joseph
How We Met
Joseph and I met 6 years ago in our beloved college town, Gainesville, Florida. I was at my favorite bar with my friend, when I noticed “white-shirt at the bar.” I instantly told my friend that I thought he was cute, and flashed a smile or two in his direction. Little did I know, “white-shirt at the bar” had simultaneously told his friend that he was going to talk to the brunette, and that his friend could talk to the blonde. We instantly hit it off, and talked for hours that night. He drove my friend and I home, and said he wanted to take me to dinner the following night. We had an amazing date that next night, and I remember thinking that it was too good to be true!
And the rest was history from there- we have been inseparable ever since! Joseph and I have already been through so many milestones together, and have grown so much throughout the years! We both graduated with business degrees from the University of Florida, and both had changes of hearts soon after. Joseph decided to pursue a career in fire fighting, while I decided to pursue nursing school, and now nurse practitioner school. It has been so special to be able to go through such similar, huge, changes together, and we are so excited about our future together!
How He Asked
Joseph and I were on vacation in New York City during Christmas time, so naturally, one of the nights were saved for ice skating in Rockefeller Center. Joseph had reserved the 8:30 pm block months in advance, and I was beyond excited, as I had never been skating in Rockefeller Center before!
After an amazing, romantic dinner at a streak house, we walk up to Rockefeller Center and Joseph pulls out a paper and immediately brings me to the front of the (LONG) line to get into the rink.
As he flashed the paper, the line attendee smiled and nodded at him, and in we were. I asked Joseph why we were “so important” tonight, and he laughed and said he paid for a VIP skating package, and that we were going to be able to skip the skate rental line next too. By the time we got on the ice, it was roughly 9:00, so we happily skated hand-in-hand for the hour. I kept asking Joseph to take a picture with me in front of the tree, but he kept putting me off, saying we would get one at the end of the session.
As the hour came to an end, an announcement was made on the loud speaker that it was time to clear the ice. I asked Joseph about the picture again, as this was our last chance. He then told me that there was another part of the VIP package- he had arranged for us to be able to take a professional picture in front of the tree on the skating rink by ourselves.
This sounded amazing to me, but I still didn’t think anything of it, so I got in position to take the photo with him. As we were posing, I all of a sudden hear our song, “Everything” by Michael Buble, start to play, and that’s when it all started to hit me! I looked over at Joseph to ask what was going on, and that’s when he (very gracefully!) got down on one knee.
It was truly a fairy tale night, like a scene out of a movie! The Rockefeller Center ice skating rink had been cleared, the tree was magically shining, and people were cheering all around us. Most importantly, I got to say yes to marrying my college sweetheart, my very best friend!
