Caty and Brad

How We Met

Brad and I met one summer in Austin, TX. We were both camp counselors at an activity camp and were assigned to the teenage crew. Every night I was in charge of the girls on extended curfew and he was in charge of the guys. During this time we had a lot of opportunities to talk (and I developed a major crush). After the summer, I moved back to Fayetteville, AR and he moved back to Nashville, TN. Over the years we kept in touch and would visit each other frequently. We had each been in a few relationships, but were never willing to give up our friendship. We both decided it was time to make a move and have been together ever since!

How He Asked

We had planned a trip to Austin for SXSW with a bunch of our friends. During our time at the airport, Brad’s bag was searched because he had left his pocket knife in his back pack by accident after fishing one day. I could tell he was closely watching the security officer digging through his bag and he kept looking to see if I was watching. About 40 minutes after our friends picked us up from the airport they dropped us off by the river in Austin. He told me that he wanted to get a picture of the Stevie Ray Vaughn statue for his stepdad. After a few minutes of walking and talking, he pulled out the ring and asked if he could keep me forever. I was so in the moment that I forgot to take pictures (eek!), but over the next week we spent time on a road trip to the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Lake Powell and Horseshoe Bend. We were keeping the engagement to ourselves so we could go home and tell my kiddo before everyone else. On our way through Arizona we took this picture at one of our favorite spots in Horseshoe Bend.
