Carty and Joey

How We Met

Joey and I met in passing. At the time, we both worked for a major hospital system in Winston-Salem, NC, and they had just built a Starbucks across from my office. Knowing Joey now, he is addicted to coffee, and understably so since being a physician. I continued to see Joey daily at the Starbucks, and I was immediately drawn to him. He was always with a large group of people, as Doctors always are. I then was out to dinner in Winston one night, and I saw him, again with a large group of people; however, I said to myself that the next time I see him at the hospital, I would go up to him and introduce myself to him. I thought the worst that can happen is that he would say that he isn’t interested or seeing someone else. Two days later, I saw him walking out of work to the parking deck. Luckily for me, he was by himself and there is only one way to get to the parking deck for employees. I caught up to him and said “hi!” Next thing I know, he finds my email on the employee internal site and emails me that night! We continued the symbolism by making Starbucks our first date and that was just the beginning of our love!

How He Asked

Joey and I just built a house together, and we hosted Thanksgiving for both of our families in the new house. It was perfect! The very next weekend, Joey planned a getaway to Asheville, NC for just the two of us. On our second day there, Joey had two dozen roses and champagne delivered to the hotel room at 8am, and woke me up to tell me how much he loved me and wanted to take the next step in our relationship. I was in my Christmas pyjamas with my glasses on, and everything about it was us. On Saturday mornings, we always eat breakfast in bed at home, and Joey definitely took a part of our weekend routine at home to our weekend in Asheville.
