Candace and Devoe

How We Met

We met in chemistry class during my sophomore year of college.  The class was at 8 am.  I have never been a morning person, so we didn’t talk much.  We frequented many of the same local hangouts and always exchanged hellos when we bumped into each other.  One night, as I was leaving one of the bars we often visited, I heard someone call my name.  I turned around to see Devoe (full of liquid courage, of course) down on one knee.  He jokingly asked me to marry him, and all of our friends had a good laugh.  A few months later, he asked me out on a date, and we have been together ever since!

How He Asked

Nearing the end of my third semester of grad school, Devoe suggested that I take a break from studying to spend the day Christmas shopping in Georgetown. On our way to pick up some cupcakes, we took a detour to walk by the Georgetown Canal.  There, he got down on one knee and popped the question — this time with a ring and a photographer hiding out to capture the special moment!
