Camille and Travis
How We Met
Travis and I met in 2010; we were a part of large group of friends and at the time we were dating other people. I was extremely shy so we didn’t speak that much. That summer, my friends and I started going to beach where he was a lifeguard and we saw each other a lot more. We were both single and I realized we had a lot in common. We became best friends and were together almost every day. We both have a major movie obsession and we started to watch movies together almost every day after I got out of school. He would also come to the candy shop where I worked and spend hours there talking to me. Finally we came to the realization that we were more than just friends. He made the first move and told me that he had feelings for me, which I absolutely reciprocated. And the rest is history!
How He Asked
Flashback to September 22, 2011. Travis and I were broken up after dating for about 6 months. We hadn’t spoke in over 5 months. During my work break, I’m parked at a little beach on the bay and talking to my Dad on the phone about the most recent New York Giants game. Then out of nowhere, a knock on my window. I jumped about a foot out of my seat and turned to look and it was Travis. I managed to stammer out, “Dad, I’ll call you right back” and I rolled my window down. We just stared at each other in silence. Finally, he said, “Is it really that weird talking to me?” I laughed and got out of my car.
Now fast forward to the present. Travis and I have been together for 6 and a half years. We are buying a house this year and we have the cutest dog named Leila. On February 10, 2018, I’m on my way home from work and Travis calls me, “Why don’t you come over to the bay beach on 14th street and take Leila for a walk with me?” I say yes and head right over; it was going to rain for the rest of the weekend so i knew I had to get there quick. I pull up to the beach; the same beach where I was sitting almost 7 years ago when Travis came and knocked on my window. We been here a hundred times together over the years. As we are walking down the beach, Travis stops and looks at me. He says, “Do you remember the first thing I said to you here?” I just stared at him, confused as to where this question came from. He says, “I knocked on your window and said ‘Is it really that weird?’” I nod, still just staring at him confused. He continues with, “So would it really be that weird if I asked you to marry me here at the same spot?” My jaw drops as he gets down on one knee and opens the ring box. Leila is in between us staring at me as if to say, “Well Mom, what do you say?” And after a few moments of staring in shock at him, I say yes. We have come full circle to where it all began for us, at that little bay beach. And it couldn’t have been more perfect.
