Caitlin and Greg

How We Met

Five years ago, Greg and I met while teaching high school. It was my first year teaching Special Education and his second year teaching Agricultural Science. My students loved Greg and talked about how wonderful he was (I agreed). After co-workers (and a couple of perceptive students) suggested we go on a date, I orchestrated some copy room flirting and asked him out. On that date we found a shared love of the outdoors and wine. Fast forward through two years of teaching together followed by over two years of living in separate cities, we were finally back in the same city together.

How He Asked

After a long week, we went on a weekend getaway to snowshoe and visit one of our favorite wineries. I am starting my own wedding planning business so Greg had arranged for a tour of the winery’s event facilities before our dinner reservation. After a tour of the cellar, we walked out to the gazebo that was set up “for an event.”

Upon walking to the gazebo I realized our tour guide had disappeared. I walked to the table with champagne and roses set up under string lights as the sun was setting. Before I realized what was happening, Greg was on one knee. I immediately began crying and yelling “YES” before he even asked! After asking me to be his wife he had wanted to make sure my family was involved even though they couldn’t make the trip up from California; so he had my mom, dad, and brother film videos congratulating and letting us know how excited they were. After tons of happy tears we popped the champagne and celebrated with some of our favorite wines at the winery!
