How We Met

We met while in college at The Ohio State University. I had just transferred to the school and was working crazy hours for a state representative, leaving little time to go out or socialize. It was the night of my birthday and one of my best girlfriends promised to take me out to celebrate. We ended up at one of the busiest bars on campus and it seemed like everyone was out. People were wall to wall, and there was barely even enough room to turn around. My girlfriend and I were complaining about not being able to move with people bumping into us from left to right, when all of a sudden a guy (Taylor) turns around and asks us if he can get us anything. Naturally, standing at 6’8 it was like the sea parted for him in that bar! He ended up buying me a drink and we stayed there until close talking about our families and goals, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made going out that night!

How He Asked

We had recently bought our first house in Scottsdale, Arizona and we decided we both needed a break from all the landscapers, electricians, furniture shopping and deliveries so we planned a week off! Taylor had his brother and friend fly in for the week to visit, and I decided to take a road trip to visit some friends in LA. The day I left I woke up extra early to get a head start on the drive, and Taylor woke up with me to help me get out the door and offer to cook me some breakfast. It was so nice to have some time off from endless house chores, but we were really missing each other.

My last day in LA I decided to pack up early, have some breakfast and hit the road so I could get back to my man. On the drive back Taylor kept asking me when I was going to be home, and to keep him updated because he was going to take a nap and run some errands, but wanted to be home when I got back. As I got closer to home Taylor told me to make sure I pulled up to the front of the house so he could help me with my bags and not have to carry them up the stairs through the garage. I didn’t think anything of it because I didn’t want to have to carry them up the stairs either!

As I pulled up to the house I could see him through our double doors, but it seemed like he was just standing there, certainly not coming to help me with my bags. I grabbed my purse and walked up to the door. When I got in the house he was on one knee, surrounded by rose petals, flowers and candles with a playlist on that he created himself for the occasion. I had imagined how this would happen my entire life, but I had no idea how shocking it would actually be. I was so taken aback that I actually asked him what all of this was for! Moments later when everything finally registered I was in tears hugging him, it was exactly how I would’ve wanted it to be.
