Brooke and Andrew

How We Met

Andrew and I met at a church camp his church would put on each summer in Rutledge, Ga. His youth pastor was desperately looking for some female counselors to help out and reached out to my youth pastor to see if he had any youth interested in doing it. His daughter and I were really close and since he was making her volunteer, I decided to tag along as well. Andrew was a counselor at the came that year too and we became fast friends but neither of us really knew what our relationship would turn into years down the road.

Andrew and I grew up in different towns, went to different schools, attended different churches and hung out with different people. Even after we graduated high school, he went to UGA and I went to GCSU. At no point in time should our paths have crossed. That’s why I truly believe God was the one who brought us together by putting this camp opportunity in my life.

It wasn’t love at first sight but it was definitely a friendship in the making from day one. We clicked that first summer and maintained contact with one another over the next few years. It wasn’t until my high school boyfriend broke up with me my senior year did we start really hanging out with each other. We went on a few dates and something told me almost immediately that this guy was different than anyone else I have ever dated. So after a few months of getting to know each other and going on dates did we decide to make things official. We have been inseparable ever since.

Six years later and we are just as in love as we were when we were teenagers. I still get butterflies when I see him after a long day at work. I still yearn to know more about him. I still think God had a hand in bringing us together and I am so thankful for my willingness to try something new that summer and be a camp counselor. I am so thankful to have him and I cannot wait to marry him in October.

How He Asked

My fiance, Andrew, and I have been together for six years and have talked many times about getting married. However, to my displeasure, he would always tell me that he couldn’t wait to get engaged but he wanted to wait a little longer until we had some of our life plans figured out. (graduate, get jobs, buy a house) Which is totally understandable but when you’ve been dating for as long as we have I was anxious to move on to the next stage of our relationship.

In May 2017 I graduated with my Bachelors degree in Communication and Marketing and in August I received my first job offer from a financial institution as their Marketing Director. In September, we bought our first home and closed on it almost a month later. I finally felt like we were checking off all the boxes that were preventing him from “popping the question.” However, whenever getting engaged would get brought up he would tell me that I would just have to wait a while longer. To say I wasn’t frustrated would be a lie because I definitely was, but I understood that getting engaged was a big deal and so if he needed more time then that was fine. I finally stopped bringing it up and focused all of my efforts on my new job and getting our new home finished.

When December rolled around, we were just starting to move into our new house because of all the renovations that needed to be done since closing. It had been a while since I brought up getting engaged and kinda came to terms with the fact that it was probably going to be a long time before it would happen. We were getting ready to decorate for Christmas and my family has never had a real Christmas tree, we always bought an artificial one. Andrew hated this because his family always went and got a live tree. I told him that since this was our first Christmas in the new house that we could go and get a real tree from one of the local Christmas Tree farms. He agreed and we planned to go one weekend and make a day out of it. The night before we were supposed to go to the farm, he called and said that some of our friends were having a get together at their house and wanted us to come. This isn’t unusual so I agreed and went to meet him at their house. I had no idea this was my pre-engagement party. Everyone stayed together that night and the next morning we all got up and went our separate ways, which isn’t any different than any other weekend spent there. I had no idea what was going to happen next.

When we got to the farm we were greeted by some of our friends who volunteer there during the winter. They directed us to the lower parking lot where we could get a saw and head to the farm. With saw in tow, we made our way through the maze of trees to find the perfect one for our little house. We laughed and joked just like we did on any other day outing. Once we had chosen our tree I was getting ready to go because it was getting late in the afternoon and I wanted to get the tree home so we could set it up before dark. However, Andrew insisted on going on a hayride around the farm and after a little convincing, we did. It was actually a pretty fun and romantic trip because it was just the two of us on the hayride. It was a little late in the season to be getting a tree so the farm wasn’t too crowded that day. When we got back I started packing our stuff up to head to the car but Andrew said he wanted to take just one more picture of me pretending to cut down one of the trees. So I grabbed the saw and started to walk towards one of the trees on the outside of the row. He told me that wouldn’t work and that he wanted to go back into the trees to find the “perfect” tree to pretend to cut down. So I followed him back into the maze of trees to find another “perfect” tree. As we were weaving in and out of the rows, we turned down one of the center aisles and I saw a banner hung up between the tree branches that said: “Will You Marry Me?”

Where to Propose in Jack Creek Christmas Tree Farm

Initially I thought we had stumbled on someone’s proposal and had just ruined everything. That was until he grabbed my hand and got down on one knee. I couldn’t believe this was happening. He had the biggest smile on his face and giggled as he asked me to be his wife, almost like he could not believe the words that were coming out of his mouth. I couldn’t say yes fast enough and I jumped into his arms and held him so tight. I did not want to let go because I never wanted that moment to end. Then, to my surprise, all of our family and friends came flooding out of the tree line. He had done such an amazing job organizing everything and all of our loved ones got to watch this moment happen. I was overwhelmed with emotion and could not believe how perfect this was. Every dream I had of this moment did not even compare to what happened.

I still cannot believe I get to marry such an amazing man. I am so thankful for his thoughtfulness in organizing the most perfect proposal. We are getting married October 20, 2018 and everyday that passes I get more and more excited to share my forever with him.
