Brittney and Greg
How We Met
Greg and I met in our freshman year of high school, we had an off period together and actually met in our high school library. After a couple of weeks hanging out he finally asked me to be his girlfriend. We were together for most of freshman year but ended up breaking up in March. Fast forward to July, 2006, we started talking and hanging out again. Only after a few days of hanging out we got back together and have been together ever since.
Our anniversary is July 20, and since we were celebrating our 9 year anniversary we decided to make a mini vacation out of it and have a long weekend in New York City. We got into the city on Friday, July 24, 2015 and checked into our hotel, which was amazing it was right across the street from Freedom Tower and we had a room with a view! My cousin works in the city and we had plans to meet her for lunch so we hopped on the subway and made our way up towards Grand Central Station. Once we got off the subway we had to walk quite a few blocks and on the way we passed the library, Greg asked me if I had ever been, I said no so he suggested we stop in and look around since we had some time to kill. So we walked around and looked at everything, at this point I started to get a little cranky and was complaining that it was hot and too many stairs (he had been acting weird all day, but I didn’t even realize that he was until after everything happened). Greg then explained to me that he thought it would be romantic to walk through the library because it was where we met 11 years ago, after that I felt really bad for complaining and tried to put on a happy face and get into it. So we finally got to this beautiful room that had painted ceilings and there was a glass case with a book in it in the center of the room, Greg suggested that I go and check it out. I go to look at the book then turn around and he is down on one knee, he said “You probably knew this was coming but will you marry me?” I immediately began freaking out I could not believe it was really happening, I of course said yes and everyone in the room started clapping for us.
That night we had reservations to go my favorite restaurant for dinner, Becco. I was antsy just sitting in the hotel room so we decided to leave early for our reservation. Unbeknownst to me Greg had my parents, grandma, cousins, aunt, uncle and his parents coming to dinner to surprise me so we could celebrate. So when he got a call from the “restaurant” telling him that it was super busy and our reservation would be pushed back a little it was really my parents letting him know they had been in traffic and were running a little late. So Greg stalled and stalled and then finally we were able to get there and be seated and I was so shocked to see everyone sitting at the table. It was amazing to be able to celebrate with our families. After that he had all of his siblings hiding at the restaurant so we could party with them after our parents went home.
He did such an amazing job and I am so happy I will be his wife!
