Brittany and Lee

How He Asked

I had been asking Lee to let me take my two year old filly, Frenchie, on a trail ride all summer. He kept coming up with excuses and we never ended up going. I had just finished with work on Monday September 28th and was driving home. I was on the phone with my friend and he kept calling me (I kept ignoring it of course). After the 4th or 5th call, I answered. He said he had the horses saddled, loaded up on the trailer and waiting for me to get home…we were finally going on that trail ride!

I changed and we headed to Lake Nockamixon, which is only about 5 minutes from our house. We unloaded the horses and headed out in the woods. There is one spot we always ride to where the woods open up to the lake. I was in the lead. Lee said “I think Frenchie took a bad step….you better get off and check her right front (foot).” I said “no she didn’t…she’s fine.” After the third time he insisted that I check her, I finally got off, picked up her right foot and there it was….

Lee is a farrier so he got creative and place a leather pad under Frenchie’s right shoe. He had burned “Will you marry me” into the leather. While all of this was going on, he had gotten off of his horse and pulled a hoof pick and the ring out of his pocket. Of course I was in tears…and of course I said yes! It could not have been more perfect!
